TROOPS! Some of us have been talking. We have so much fun together in our virtual world, we think it would be a kick to get together in person! But we’re alllll over the world, and that’s a lot of money for travel, especially since there’s no possible way to get the man himself to join us. So we thought we’d do things a little differently, just us RArmy members.
Now if this is an old, tired idea, I hope the
veterans in the Armitage Army will forgive me.
I only joined about four years ago, and the troops
who are interested in trying this are also relatively new recruits.
So welcome to the first ever ArmiCon! (Hat tip to the wit of The Anglophile Channel’s Marlise Boland for the name!) We want to start small. Here’s what we suggest:
- Depending on when “The Hobbit: Thorin” also known as “Battle of the Five Armies” is released where you live, regional groups of RA fans will meet for a specific showing on specific day to see the film together. Then, depending on the time of the show, you can gather and visit over drinks and/or a meal before or after. Lots of us would like to get to know each other (and take selfies and tell tall tales)!
- Each city/region would have an organizer, who would coordinate the specific theater, showtime and spreading the word.
So many of our members are allll over the world, and even for this first gathering, we’d like for this to be a global initiative… and we know that’s a lot to ask.
But imagine it: wouldn’t it be cool if *tons* of RArmy members in Italy, Australia, Bulgaria, France, Spain, Germany, the UK, the US or WHEREVER you are went to to see the final film in “The Hobbit” trilogy on the same night at the same time in different cities all over, gathering to see and discuss the film and get to know each other? Putting faces with Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr names?
This will definitely require volunteers to coordinate each event. I volunteer to create a Facebook Event Page – like this one – for each area, and then turn it over to the regional organizer to work things out with the fans in their city. province, country via the Facebook page (which is *very* interactive). Then after the ArmiCon in your region, your selfies, other photos and stories can be posted on the Event page for posterity!
Can we pull this off? Who knows? But we’ll never know unless we try!
What do you think??? Sound off here or on the “trial balloon” Event page.
Personally, I think Thorin would be touched.
